 Aiden Markram made his debut in the match in place of Quinton de Kock and came to open the inning with Handricks but Markram couldn’t score more than 3 runs of 5 balls in his debut T20I match and got out in 2nd over by Udana , after Markram’s wicket Handricks and van der Dussen built a partnership of 116 runs where Handricks scored 65 runs(9 fours) of 46 balls and departed by Malinga in the 15th over of the match, van der Dussen gave his wicket to Akila Dhananjaya after scoring 64 runs (4 fours, 2 sixes) in 44 balls. At the end of the inning Duminy scored some good and effective runs for the team and remain unbeaten on 33 runs (2 fours, 2 sixes) of 17 balls which helped the team to reach 180-3 in 20 overs where Malinga, Udana and Dhananjaya picked one wicket each.

Sri Lankan opener continuously failed to give a good start to team as Avishka Fernando departed on a duck in the 3rd balls of the match by Dale Steyn and Dickwella got to go on 20 runs (2 fours, a six) of 15 balls by Chris Moris. After the 4th over Sri Lanka were 31-4. Thisara Parera tried to score quick runs but got out on 22 runs (2 fours, a six) of 15 balls in the ball of Pretorious. Sri Lanka continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, Sri Lankan were in deep trouble as they lost their 7th wicket on the score of 83 runs in 13.5 overs. Udana at the one end played brilliantly with the lower order batsman and took the team close to the target but wickets were falling at the other end which restricted Sri Lanka on 164-9 in 20 overs where Udana remained unbeaten on 84 runs (8 fours, 6 sixes) of 48 balls. South African bowler Chris Morris picked 3 wickets,Dale Steyn  and Shamsi got 2 wickets each and Pretorious got a wicket.
